Ehrman Mansion is a two story Queen Anne-styled summerhouse and is considered to be one of the most luxurious estates in Lake Tahoe. It certainly isn't like the numerous Lake Tahoe vacation rentals that you see people flock to, this building is just another grand example of how prestigious Lake Tahoe is.

It was the summer home of the Hellman-Ehrman family, who used their wealth to build it as a way to take advantage of their wealth to produce an estate that sets standards for the Western Shore, and to give it a touch of class.

It was in 1897 that I. W. Hellman purchased property at Sugar Pine Point and by 1913 he had acquired almost 2000 acres of land. It was here where he decided to build his summer home and called it Pine Lodge. This was completed in 1903, this was considered to be one of the best in the area. It was his daughter who had inherited the estate, Florence Hellman Ehrman and her husband Sydney truly used it as a summer home as she and her family and friends would go there almost every summer.

Huge amounts of topsoil had to be brought in to stabilize the ground when construction started, this was because the main house building was built on a sandy hillside. Granite was also brought in from nearby Meeks Bay and was used to form the foundation of the house, whilst timber was used to become the roof supports. Most of the other materials had to be transported via a streamer as this was the only way to get the materials to the summer home.

The house was fairly modern as it featured technology that wasn't openly available to everyone, most certainly not the poor. These included things like electric lights and complete indoor plumbing, and there were steam generators that produced electricity for the estate, which showed the extent of their wealth as commercially powered electricity wasn't available until 1927. Water was roughly the same as they had to use a ditch and flume system to run from General Creek to a storage tower near the main house, which distributed it to the separate individual buildings.

There were many building structures on the grounds, other than the main building there was a caretaker's cottage by the lake, a children's house that was by the tennis court, a maids' quarters, a butlers' house, an ice house, a coach house, a tank house and two boat houses which were home to two boats called the Jacqueline and the Cherokee. The estate was also capable of gathering its own food in the form of vegetables as it had a patch of land that had a dedicated dairy and vegetable garden.

The 1,975 acre estate was acquired by the California State Park system and they turned the it into a house museum. During the summer months visitors can tour the mansion where they get to see the how they kept the glamorous building in pristine condition to show the qualities of a grand home that has been around since the beginning of the last century.

Things to do in Lake Tahoe: Vikingsholm and Eagle Falls

Lake Tahoe is amazingly beautiful. If you are planning a trip you will enjoy it. And depending on what time of year you visit, there is always plenty to do. In the winter there are all the snow related activities. In the summer, there are all the water related activities. And there is always cruising on the lake.

Most cruises on the lake take you to Emerald Bay, which is the jewel of Lake Tahoe. It is the most photographed area of the lake and arguably the most beautiful. At the heart of Emerald Bay sits Vikingsholm, a Swedish style mansion built in 1868.

There are two ways to get there. One is by boat. If you rent one you can sail it to Emerald Bay and dock it close to the home. The second way is to drive. The road around Lake Tahoe takes you to the house. But the road is only open when there is no snow. This road itself, offers amazing views of the lake. Be careful while driving because in many areas there are no guide rails, and it is a long way down.

Once you get there, there is a small parking lot and then a path that leads down the mountain to the lakeshore and the house. It is a one mile hike. Tour guides say it is a relatively easy hike, and it is - on the way down. On the way up is a different story.

Once you make it down to the lake, you can take a tour of the house. Tours are held every hour and cost $5 per adult. We skipped the tour. Once you've seen an old house, you've seen them all. But the visitor center has a cool, free museum that exhibits many interesting pictures and tells the story of the house.

On the right side of the Visitor Center is a small path that leads you to Eagle Falls. Follow this path for about .1 mile until you come to the bridge. Continue on the trail to the right side of the bridge for another .2 miles. This trail takes you to Lower Eagle Falls. And the trek is worth it. The falls are beautiful. If you get tired, you can just stand there and let the mist cool you down. If you look hard enough, you can see Upper Eagle Falls and other people at the top.

To see Upper Eagle Falls, there is a parking lot near the Vikingsholm lot. But the lower falls offer a better view then the upper ones.

It is a good idea to sit by the lake and take in the beauty before you make the one mile hike up the mountain to your car. What is really amazing is the height that you will travel back to your car. You actually climb up the entire mountain.

From the Nevada/California state line, it takes about 30 minutes to drive to the Vikingsholm parking lot. Depending on how physically fit you are, it can take you between 2-4 hours to walk down, around, then back up.

But be warned, the trip is a great one to make, but your muscles will be sore the next day. Especially your rear.

Party on a Boat in Lake Tahoe

If you love being on the water and water sports, you should plan a trip to Lake Tahoe. Not only is the scenery beautiful, but there is miles and miles of lake for you to speed around on in your boat. Depending on what type of boat you have, you can do all kinds of water sports with it. You can also fish if you want to or just take a leisurely ride around the lake and get tan!

You can go skiing, wake boarding or parasailing in Lake Tahoe but don't forget your life jacket! No matter how old you are, it's always essential that you prepare for the unexpected. Even if you're just riding on the boat, wear a life jacket at all times in case there are big waves or unforeseeable currents that are much stronger than you. You may feel silly wearing a life jacket but trust me, they can and will save your life in an emergency.

It's advised not to drink when you're driving your boat in Lake Tahoe, but people tend to do it anyway. Think of it this way: you wouldn't have 10 beers and then go drive your car, would you? Hopefully the answer is no and you should give your boat, the passengers in it and all the other people on the lake the same courtesy. Your vision and motor skills are highly distorted, even after just a few drinks, so appoint a designated driver to keep everyone safe.

It's always fun to have a party on a boat in Lake Tahoe, so think about having your next birthday or anniversary party there. If you have a large enough boat, you can invite some friends to swim, ski, fish or suntan with you on it. Make sure you bring great food and music and everyone will have a great time!

Lake Tahoe is located on the western border of Nevada and the eastern border of California. It is 198 miles (316.8 kilometers) north of San Francisco, 98 mi. (156.8 km.) east of Sacramento, California, and 158 mi. (252.8 km.) west of Reno, Nevada. It is central to several National Forests and State Parks. It's known for its purity and outstanding clarity. Once can see objects clearly as deep as 100 feet (30.48 meters) beneath its surface. This lake has 72 mi. (115.2 km.) of shoreline, with open beaches and shaded, sheltered coves alike.

Tahoe is the eighth largest lake in the world (519 square miles, or 1343.69 square kilometers), and it is the third largest lake in the United States. It is fed by 63 streams and two hot springs. The water has a purity level of 99.9%, making it one of the cleanest natural water resources on the planet. It is 22 miles (35.2 km) long, and 12 mi. (19.2 km.) wide. The deepest point is 1645 feet (501.39 meters), making it the tenth deepest lake in the world. The Lake Tahoe Basin floor is at an elevation of approximately 4580 feet (1395.98 meters).

One research resource states that Tahoe never freezes to its depth, because of said depth and constant water movement. This same source went on to state that, if the lake were ever drained, it would take seven hundred years to refill it. Further, if Lake Tahoe were "tipped over" the contents would cover an area the size of California (163,707 sq. mi., or 423,837 sq. km.) in 14.5 in. (36.83 cm.) of water. The total volume of water is 39 trillion gallons (902,063,703 barrels-UK)!

Even at its elevation, the first 12 feet (3.65 meters) of surface water can reach 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) in the summer, with the shallows at the shoreline warming even more. At the coldest, the surface temperature may drop to between 40 and 50 degrees F (4.44 to 10 degrees C). The depths below 600 and 700 ft. (182.88 and 213.36 meters) stay consistently at 39F (3.88C) year round.

The Lake Tahoe Basin has an annual snowfall of 152 inches (386.08 cm.), which typically occurs between December and March. This accounts for 80% of the total annual precipitation for the area. Average temperatures range from 60 to 80F (15.55 to 26.66C) between June and October, and 20 to 60F (6.66 to 15.55C) from November to May. Records show that the mountain peaks surrounding the Basin can be snow capped all year round, and there may actually be snowfall even in the hottest months.

The water is typically a turquoise-blue, and reflects the sky and surrounding objects as clearly as a mirror when the surface is placid and undisturbed.

History

Lake Tahoe was formed when the valley which became Tahoe Basin sank between two parallel fractures in the Earth's crust. Mountains continued to form over a period of time. The lake began to fill at the south end of the valley, fed by snow meltdown and rainfall. During the course of formation, an erupting volcano blocked the outlets for water drainage and forced the lake to rise. During the Ice Age, large masses of ice determined the outlay of the land surface and terrain, which is the present-day topography that one can see when visiting the Basin.

The Native American Washoe tribe inhabited the Tahoe region as far back as 10000 years ago. The Washoe called the area "Da ow a ga", translated to "edge of the lake". The first white visitors to the area mispronounced this name, and called it "Tahoe". The name remained in this Anglicized form.

In 1844, pioneers began to settle throughout Tahoe Basin and establish claims on the land. In 1849, during the California Gold Rush, more settlers came along, opened roadhouses, and staked out ranches and farms. Toward the end of the 1800s, many Tahoe forests were leveled to supply lumber and fuel to the Comstock Mines in Virginia City, Nevada. Once the land had been stripped of its natural forestation, entrepreneurs snapped up the land (literally dirt-cheap) and began building hotels and mansions for the wealthy.

In the early 1900s, serious attempts were made to have Lake Tahoe declared a national park. These efforts failed, due to the fact that the area had been ravaged and lacked the "untouched" qualities necessary for national park status.

With the coming of the automobile and improved roadways, Tahoe lost its exclusivity with the influx of the general population. After World War II campgrounds and inexpensive hotels sprouted up, and were very popular during the post-war growth period.

The Winter Olympics in 1960 thrusted Tahoe into the international spotlight, and was instrumental in establishing it as a world-class resort. It quickly became popular in both the winter and summer seasons. The growth period that followed threatened the purity of the lake and its environment. In 1970, a group or preservationists and residents came together to form a regional planning agency to regulate the growth and protect the lake.

Tahoe is known today for it marvelous cold-weather sports conditions and great ski slopes, as well as the warm-weather amenities. It is a magnet for tourists from around the world. Thanks to the efforts of the regional agency, as well as the National Forest Service and other preservationists, much of the area surrounding the Basin has been restored to its natural beauty. The views are magnificent and the forests provide habitat for many species of wildlife, including some of those which are listed in the United States as endangered.

South Lake Tahoe - A Full Day Of Activities

Centered on Yosemite as we are with the Hotel Charlotte in Groveland, California, we often feature routes and itineraries that cover areas where Travelers tend go when they leave Groveland, or are on their way to Groveland. We find that Lake Tahoe is one such destination that many of our guests are coming from or going to. We have traveled to Tahoe from all of the Sierra Nevada crossings including Highways 80, 50, 88 and 89, 4, 108, 120 and then North on 395 and offer up our favorite stops along the way.

Our last trip was a 2-night sojourn to South Lake Tahoe. For our route there we took 49 to 50 into South Lake Tahoe. This took us 4 hours. Our return trip we took highway 89 out of South Lake Tahoe to Highway 88 into Jackson, passing Kirkwood ski area and several scenic alpinesque lakes. From Jackson, we caught 49 south. This route was only 3 hours and 15 minutes and very scenic, far fewer towns and less traffic. Each of these routes is open year-round, plowed throughout the snow season. Alternative summer routes include Highway 4 which has some wonderful stops including Murphys (a wine tasting town), Calaveras Big Trees State Park, and the Scenic Byway section from Alpine Lake to Highway 89 near Markleevile that twists itself over the mountain (A slow and often narrow route, but very photographic.) Highway 108 is another option through the Sierras and rivals Yosemite's Tioga Pass for incredible scenery.

Once in South Lake Tahoe we usually chose to stay at the smallest and friendliest casino hotel, Lakeside Lodge, (not actually on the lake!) for convenience to the town with fair room rates, excellent menu choices and a small and comfortable casino. We also recommend a stay at the Zephyr Cove Resort, also on the Nevada side for the myriad of activities. One can ride horses, rent speed boats, canoes, kayak and sailboats from Zephyr Cove. In the winter there are oodles of snow activities that start from here.

A drive around the lake is a must do! Depending on the number of stops you make this scenic loop will take at least 2 hours and is roughly 95 miles. We tend to drive counter clockwise, although driving clockwise keeps you on the coastal side of the highway, Stop at every view point, all the little parks and take photos, splash in the water and talk to the fishermen about their successes; each enclave is unique.

One of our favorite stops has always been the Ponderosa Ranch. For Bonanza fans, this was always a marvelous memory jogger. Sadly, the ranch sold and is now closed to the public. The ranch sported several age-old crafts men from the smithy to the glass blower. Crowd pleasers included a lassoer plying the audience with his artistry.

Tahoe City and several other places along the Western short offer bicycle rentals. The riding trail borders both the lake and the road. Watch for traffic as the trail crosses the highway in several points. This is a beautiful route on a paved bike path and is well used by families and sport riders alike.

Just before returning to South Lake Tahoe is Emerald Bay where you will see the castle and the island-topped tea house. Both remote and lonely looking places, but stunning in that they even exist.

Once back in South Lake Tahoe jump aboard the gondola to the top of Heavenly Mountain. This might be a bit uncomfortable for those with a weakness for heights and that awful falling feeling, but is well worth the few minutes with no ground below your feet. Victor enjoyed my reaction when he tried to rock our climbing cocoon. There are dozens of hikes that originate from the pinnacle and follow the ski trails. Take care to return to the Gondola before closing, it is a long walk down if you don't!

Consider an even cruise on the paddle wheel boat, MS Dixie II that departs from Zephyr Cove. On our trip we opted for the dinner service, and while the meal was fair and we met some pleasant travelers at our table, if we were to do it again, we would just do the sight-seeing tour, skip the meal, save $20 per person and have a wonderful dinner landside after debarking! The cruise takes you across the lake to Emerald Bay where we re-saw the sights of earlier in the day, but from a new vantage point. This cove is noted as one of the most photographed spots in the world;a well deserved title!

Additional activities for a prolonged stay include an over-lake hotair ballon ride, white water rafting on the Truckee river, Horse back riding, a side trip to Virginia City or Reno in Nevada and more! Look for valuable coupons at strategic hotel locations throughout the area.

Lake Tahoe History

Lake Tahoe, the lake itself and the small towns scattered around it, are located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the border of Nevada and California. The lake is a freshwater lake and is renowned for the clarity and chill of the water (even in summer). The area is also well known for its breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada's and the ski resorts, lake activities, hiking, camping, and all sorts of off trail recreational sports.

Of course, Lake Tahoe is historically best known for the discovery of silver in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the 1860's. During the Gold Rush happening in California, fortune seekers headed to Tahoe and Virginia City, Nevada, hoping to hit the next mother lode, like the Comstock Lode found in 1859. Miners, workers, and even families traveled over the treacherous Donner Pass on nothing but foot, wagons, and horses. The trek over the mountains became so popular that it was named the "Bonanza Road" (which later became the still used Highway 50).

Eventually, the silver and gold ran dry and the miners slowly left, or pursued different avenues for making money such as tolls and taxes to use the pass and lumber harvesting. However, that was short-lived and as early as the 1900's, Lake Tahoe became a vacation spot for the rich and famous of San Francisco, California. Hotels catering to the rich looking to pamper themselves in a beautiful setting became the new commerce.

However, the lake actually has history prior to the Gold Rush. The lake was discovered by Kit Carson and John Fremont in 1844, but the Washo Indians had been living around the lake and utilizing its fish and fresh water for centuries prior to that. The Washo used the area as a summer venue for their religious ceremonies and meeting with other factions of the tribes that wintered in different areas. It was the Washo that named the lake; their word was "Da-ow-a-ga" which translates to "edge of the lake." When Carson and Fremont came, they could not understand or pronounce the Indian word and mispronounced it as Tahoe. The early explorers actually named the Lake Bonpland (meaning Mountain Lake after a French botanist) and Bigler Lake after California's third governor. But none of these names stuck. The people in the area still called it Tahoe. In 1945, they gave in and officially renamed the Lake Tahoe.

It wasn't until 1944 when the first casino and saloon, Harvey's Wagon Wheel Saloon and Gambling Hall, that the area began to be known as a gambling destination for entertainment. Many more casinos and hotels began to spring up. Then, in the early 50's, the roads and passes began to be manually landscaped with roads being built and maintained year round, and people began to build houses and schools and lived in Tahoe full time, not just as a vacation home.

In 1960, the Olympics Winter Games were held in Lake Tahoe at one of the oldest ski resorts, Squaw Valley, and that began the reputation for Lake Tahoe being thought of as the ideal ski destination in the United States.

Luckily, for all that live and visit Lake Tahoe, the government of California and Nevada worked together to create the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in 1968. The Agency was convened to ensure that all developments and tourist areas were limited to allow the natural environment of the area to flourish and continue to be a wild and natural escape for as long as people wanted to visit.

The foresight of these early precautions has helped to maintain some very delightful and amazing historical sites for the modern tourist to see. A few of the most notable are the Vikingsholm Castle on Fannette Island, Ehrman Mansion, and Taylor Creek Stream Profile Chamber.

Located at the west end of Emerald Bay, Nevada, Fannette Island (the only island in Lake Tahoe) with the Vikingsholm Castle atop. The island and the castle are a great way to get to see first hand some of the diverse people and cultures that traveled through the basin. The castle was built in 1928 by Mrs. Lora J. Knight who instructed Scandinavian architect Lennart Palme to build a home without chopping down, moving, or injuring any of the site's natural trees.

Knight and Palme decided to build a Norse fortress from about 800 A.D. in full scale, method, and detail. They used only those tools and concepts of those used in ancient Scandinavia. The towers, turrets, towers, carvings, and hand-sanded wood were used to create the modern fortress. They installed a sod roof with grass that the ancient Scandinavians used to feed livestock during the winter. Mrs. Knight also wanted her furniture and décor to reflect the Scandinavian era, but many of her desired artifacts were so historically significant that their export was forbidden by the Norwegian and Swedish governments. But she was so driven to complete her vision, she had them copied exactly and recreated for her house.

The Ehrman Mansion is located in the Sugar pine Point State Park in California. The property was owned, until 1965, by Isaias W. Hellman, who built his summer home, Pine Lodge in 1903, then he began buying property in Lake Tahoe in 1913 and got up to about 2000 acres. The Mansion and the 1975 acres of the State Park give a good insight into the Tahoe of the early turn of the century. Of the decadence, yet need, to have the land remain wild.

Similarly, the Taylor Creek Chamber is a place where people can go and experience, nearly first hand, what the water and the creatures living in the lake are like. The glass bay windows walls, the waterfall, and the creek-bottom-eque floors complete with sound effects make this experience realistic, but without getting into the chilly Tahoe water.

The viewing windows of the actual lake then become a huge mural that wraps around the walls of the room, or chamber. There is also a huge cottonwood tree growing in the middle of the chamber. Visitors can view scenes of the Taylor Creek ecosystem throughout the four seasons, with a final scene looking down Taylor Creek where it empties into Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Mountain Biking and Hiking

Some would say that Tahoe is the best place on the west coast for epic cross-country mountain biking, some would say the country, some would say the world. And you need look no further than the Tahoe Rim Trail (tahoerimtrail.org) to get started. Bar none, the best off road biking, remote wilderness hiking and backpacking in the Tahoe Basin can be found somewhere on this 150 mile long scenic trail. It's just a matter of how far you want to ride or hike to get it.

By far the most popular section of the TRT for hiking and biking is the Flume Trail (theflumetrail.com). The Flume Trail began life as a siphon waterway from Incline Village, Nevada on the east shore of Lake Tahoe over the Carson Range, down the Truckee Meadows, and up to Virginia City, NV high in the Virginia Range. There are lots of options for camping right down on the lake at Nevada Beach just minutes from Stateline and South Lake Tahoe along highway 50 in Roundhill, Nevada. You can see sunset views over Mt. Tallac and the Desolation Wilderness right from your campfire.

Tahoe Water Adventures

Lake Tahoe is a large body of water. As the second deepest lake in the United States it is 1,637 feet deep, 22 miles long and 12 miles wide. So there's more than enough space on its shimmering surface for any kind of water recreation you can imagine.

Waterskiing

All summer sail boats stream across the lake and motor boats tug around happy people waterskiing, tubing and wakeboarding. Water temps are 65 to 70 degrees, but you wouldn't be sorry if you wore a wetsuit.

Skiing, tubing and wakeboarding are really popular on Tahoe. The many public, private and secluded beaches are great places to launch a day of motor boating with family and friends. And the Sierra Nevada Mountains, holding snow well into the summer, makes a great backdrop to the festivities.

Tahoe Beaches

The first record of ownership of the land around the present Camp Richardson Resort and Marina are from 1875 when M.C. Gardner acquired a timber holding of several thousand acres from the U.S. Government and built a sawmill and railroad line. He paid 25 cents an acre for the land, plus $1 per acre payable over 20 years. Boy, if only we could get land that cheap today.

The beauty of Lake Tahoe will take your breath away. It is a fantastic place to visit, with resorts and developments that will please everyone.

The lake itself was formed by the rise and fall of faults about 5 to 10 million years ago. This created a deep valley that was blocked on the north-eastern side by lava from an eruption of Mt. Pluto approximately 2 million years ago. According to geologists, the initial height of Lake Tahoe was 600 feet higher than its present level.

Today the lake itself stretches across the Nevada-California border, 59 miles southwest of Reno and 100 miles northeast of Sacramento. Lake Tahoe has a surface area of approximately 192 square miles and contains about 39 trillion gallons of water with a circumference of 72 miles.

It is the largest alpine lake, measuring 22 miles long and 12 miles wide. It is the third deepest lake in North America and the tenth deepest in the world with an average depth of 989 feet and 1,645 feet at its lowest point.

Lake Tahoe is one of the few major bodies of water in North America that does not eventually empty out into the ocean. The lake is fed by 63 streams but only the Truckee River flows out. The surface of the lake is 6,227 feet above sea level. The surface of the lake can drop below the outlet to the Truckee during times of drought, making the lake totally self-contained at these times.

The top 12 feet of the lake can warm to as much as 68 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer but in the winter and in the lower depths, the lake remains at a chilly and life-threatening 39 degrees F. However, due to the constant turnover of water from the bottom to the surface, the lake as a whole has never been known to have frozen over.

This spectacular body of water has held many names over the years. It was first "discovered" by explorer John C. Fremont, accompanied by famed guide Kit Carson, on February 14, 1844. Fremont named it Lake Bonpland after a French botanist who had joined him on earlier expeditions. However, mapmaker Charles Preuss recorded it as Mountain Lake. Despite all this it was commonly called Fremont Lake until 1852 when California Governor John Bigler led a party to the area to rescue some snowbound travelers. It was then renamed Bigler Lake.

The lake went by other names such as Truckee Lake and Maheon Lake until the outbreak of the Civil War when politically correct members of the Union attempted to strike Bigler's name from the lake due to his supposed Confederate sympathies. It was then that the name "Tahoe" was proposed, supposedly because it meant "high water". Although there seems to be little historical support for this meaning of the word "Tahoe" the name stuck. Some suggest that the word is actually a corruption of the Spanish word "tajo", pronounced "ta-ho" and meaning a "cut".

Today, the Tahoe basin offers an absolutely incredible range of outdoor activities to choose from. When I wanted to go to Lake Tahoe, I was browsing the net to find the information. I got lots of information in the net but not exactly what I want. So I thought of writing this explaining where to go and what you can do in Tahoe, to help all our friends who wants to visit Lake Tahoe and thinking what to visit. I wrote this with just my visit experience, so hopefully this will be helpful to the readers

Lake Tahoe is a nice place to visit. You will really enjoy the snow, boat ride and Cable car trip to Heavenly Gandola. Drive towards North Lake Tahoe. If you are going on I80 to North Lake Tahoe, you will reach the Lake spot, get down there. Enjoy the Lake view, have fun with little snow over there. This is a nice place you find wooden benches to sit, relax and have food. There is a Safeway opposite to the Lake. You can do shopping if you want like, snacks, drinks, snowing boards or sledge.

From here, with in very visible distance you will see Stateline between California and Nevada. Drive towards Nevada state. You will see lots of Casinos as soon as you enter Nevada. While you are driving towards FREE WAY to RENO, You can find lots of skiing sites on left and right side. I found one open Skiing place on the left side was good. Its open to the public and FREE. Just park the car on the road side and jump into this skiing place. If you have sledge or something to slide on the snow, you will really have fun. Just walk up on the little slope and slide on the snow. Walk around there to play with the snow and you may also find snow dolls, which are made by some of the kids. Enjoy as much as you can and proceed towards Reno.

When you reach Reno, wow you will be thrilled to see the city with the lights from the freeway, as the freeway above the city level. You can stay in any casino hotel, like Circus Circus and visit all the casinos, play slot machines and gamble. All the casinos are very close by. Good luck, hope you gain some. Also see the Arch in the Reno City

Next Day, you leave from Reno and drive towards South Lake Tahoe. You will first reach Lake in South Lake Tahoe. There is boat ride; Boat ride is really good in summer. But if you can go, it is also good in winter. Then go ahead towards Gandola, it is very close to Stateline, you will find this on the left side. Follow the sign boards to park your car and the cable car to go on top of the Gandola Hill. Ticket to this is $24(non-holiday) and $26(Holiday) for adults. You can stay on top of the hill as long as you like and come down by any return Cable car.

And then catch US-50 West and get on to I80. You will never get this joy with any other trip. Tahoe trip in Winter is too good.
